This is a ceramic pot created from stoneware clay. It has been bisque fired to cone 05 then placed in a pit fire to create a unique multi-colored finish. The work exhibits a hand carved design below the lip, inspired by the San Idelfonso artist Maria Martinez. I admire her work, and this pot was strongly inspired by it. The base of the work near the foot has a subtle sculping technique often refered to as faceting (geometric cuts/planes). The exterior has been finished with a floor wax to bring out the colors and give it a semi-gloss finish. This pot/vessel is NOT food safe. There is a crack from the firing process (please see photos) but the work is still in tact. It is approximately 4 1/2 inches tall by 6 inches in diameter and weighs 1 lb. 5.7 oz. Signed and dated on the bottom.
